Vision for STMA:
I am truly fortunate to have the opportunity to be in a leadership role in the STMA at the local and national levels. The STMA is truly an awesome organization. Just think about the impact that the members of this organization have had on sports all over the world. Our skills, abilities and efforts help teams and individuals win State, National and World Championships. I am very honored to be nominated for Secretary/Treasurer of the STMA.
As Sports Turf Managers and as an organization, challenges and opportunities lie ahead. To overcome these challenges and capitalize on the opportunities as an organization, the STMA must continue to be strong, vibrant, efficiently managed and financially rock solid. We must continue to develop new alliances and leverage partnerships to increase our influence and relevance in the green industry. We must be proactive and take a leadership role in dealing with environmental issues. We must develop an environmental charter and incorporate it into our strategic plan. We must develop an alliance with the USGBC and use our vast network of Professors and Researchers to guide the development of new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) initiatives relating to sports fields. Our involvement can help ensure that LEED initiatives do not compromise field safety for our athletes and our children, but still accomplish desired environmental goals. We must show the world that what we do enhances our environment and our quality of life.
As individual Sports Turf Managers, we must work to enhance the future of our industry by being good stewards of the environment. We must encourage all members to achieve CSFM status for the good of the industry. Every new CSFM provides a little more name recognition and enhances our professionalism and value to our employers and clients. Finally, we must be active in our Association. Whether at the local or National level, on a Committee or on the Board, the STMA can’t function without you. Working together we can make our industry better.
